ZENIT SUFFERS SECOND HOME DEFEAT

St. Petersburg is already on the  hunt of  CSKA Moscow after six games in the Russian championship, as they hosted newly promoted Krylya Samara at Petrovsky stadium for the 7th match-day of the league.

– An early goal from the visitors numbs Zenit as Gabulov gives the lead from a close range shot at the 17′ minute.

– Meanwhile 15 minutes later Villas Boas sees his way out after a conflict with the 4th official.

– Zenit tries to find their way into Konyukhov’s posts but Krylia is defending  well.

– Two great chances from Axel Witsel; First the keeper denies him the goal with a save and the Belgian also sees his header go wide a minute later (28′).

– Last chance for the first half belongs to Hulk who smashes the top post after a foul kick was given at the edge of the box.

– What the Blue-White-Sky blues were unable to achieve in the first half, they manage to do after three minutes of game-play in the return with the help of Krylia, as defender  Nadson scores an own goal / deflection of Shatov’s pass in the box, back to square 1-1.

– While Zenit is looking for the second goal, the visitors strike twice in counter attack with similar goals from the same man, Kornilenko. The Belarusian striker takes advantage of Zenit’s exposed defence and with two close range shots, shapes the 1-3 for Krylia within four minutes (52′,56′).

– Huge chance to get back in the game for Zenit. Hulk earns the penalty but an unbeatable Konyukov’s guesses right and keeps the two goal lead for Samara.

– Danny replaces Axel after an hour of gameplay, Hulk and Shatov cannot convert a goal in the remaining minutes and Zenit suffers an unexpected loss, losing more ground into defending the title.
