ZENIT FAREWELLS RUSSIAN TITLE

Petrovsky welcomed Villas Boas and Vyacheslav Malafeev for the last time against Lokomotiv (Portuguese coach departs from Zenit at the end of the season while the Russian legend ends his huge club and country career) as the fight for the league is reaching towards it’s end with one more game day remaining and Rostov hand to hand with CSKA with Zenit following up close.

An early penalty won from Dzyuba gave the lead to the hosts with Hulk converting one more from the spot. Lodygin had some pretty good saves that kept the lead but couldn’t save Samedov’s penalty at the 45′ minute with the two teams heading for the half-time break tied.

Zenit dominated the second half with some great chances from Shatov and Hulk but was unable to break Lokomotiv’s defence who also forced Lodygin to produce some great saves.

The draw remained till the end with Zenit mathematically losing their last hopes for back to back championships and now want Rostov to not win and try to steal the second place in the last match day of the season against Dynamo next week (a game that Axel Witsel and Hulk will miss due to bookings).
