SPARTAK HEATS UP LEAGUE INTEREST

Zenit wanted to put an end to Krasnodar’s and CSKA’s hopes of winning the silverware and they knew that the game against Spartak in Moscow was crucial to secure the title.

Very few chances for the two teams in the first half with Promes from the hosts and Danny from the visitors, but neither managed to get on the score-sheet.

What Promes failed to do in the first half, Romulo succeeded after delivering a powerful header into Lodygin’s right post, 1-0 for Spartak.

Villas Boas wasted no time throwing all attacking options in (Arshavin, Rondon, Kerzhakov for Ryazantsev, Witsel and Danny) as Zenit’s pressure for the equalizer was leaving enough space for Spartak to counter-attack.

Clock was ticking reaching the 91′ when the incredible Hulk was angry enough to put rivals fans back in their seats, as with a personal effort he tied the game for Zenit saving one important point for St. Petersburg, four game-days before the finale.
