After a huge win against CSKA Moscow that gave Zenit an 8-point lead for the Russian League, the Blue White Sky blues travelled to face Terek in Grozny giving their second game in three days, as the league heads into the final turn with 8 games remaining.
Terek had the initiative of attacking and converted their better movement into an early lead (16′ – Semenov) while Zenit was trying to pierce through a well defending opposition. The answer came through Oleg Shatov who made a run into the box, trapped it with his chest and with a one touch foot slam levelled things between the two teams, a result kept up until half-time.
Home team was getting more aggressive by the minute especially after Zenit turned things completely around into their favour; Hulk dropped in an excellent set piece from 30m. out that hit the post and Rondon knocked the rebound in to put St. Petersburg into the driver’s seat, 1-2.
Terek tried aimlessly to find the equalizer but Zenit’s defence and Yuri Lodygin held on tight into a big win and 3 massive points as the title comes closer and closer to Petrovsky stadium.
