Paco Alcacer marks Borussia Dortmund debut with a goal in 3-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt

Paco Alcacer sprang from the bench and marked his Borussia Dortmund debut with a goal as the Westphalians beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 to move to the top of the Bundesliga standings on Friday night.

Filip Kostic stung the palms of Roman Bürki with Frankfurt’s first sight of goal, although the hosts held most of the early possession. Maximilian Philipp flicked a Lukasz Piszczek cross over the crossbar with Dortmund’s first opening, but Kevin Trapp was not being tested as much as he might have expected. Indeed, it was a rather scrappy affair and it perhaps stood to reason that the opening goal would follow that trend, with Abdou Diallo bundling in his first goal of the season from close range at the second time of asking following a Jacob Bruun Larsen corner.

After an equally cagey start to the second half, Dortmund coach Lucien Favre sought to inject fresh impetus into his side’s attack with Jadon Sancho sent on and Paco Alcacer handed his debut. Only seconds after the Spaniard entered the fray, though, it was the number nine at the other end – Sebastien Haller – who brought Frankfurt level, converting Danny da Costa’s deflected cross. They were on terms for only four minutes, though, before Sancho raced down the right wing, wrong-footed his marker and sent a cross over for Marius Wolf to drill in on the volley, opening his Dortmund account against his former club. Alcacer then placed the proverbial cherry on top, firing in another Sancho assist, with the aid of a deflection, to mark his debut with a goal and three points.
