LODYGIN HELPS ZENIT THROUGH TO THE RUSSIAN CUP FINAL

Zenit travelled to Perm for the second time in April to face Amkar, this time for the Russian Cup semi final.

Under heavy rain and on a tough turf, Amkar opened the score with Idowu in their first chance after a perfectly executed counter attack on the 20th minute.

Zenit reacted quickly and equalized at the 40′ minute with Javi Garcia’s close-range header with players dedicating the goal to Danny (serious injury that will keep him 9 months out).

Rain stopped but the field was heavy for proper football and the only few chances in second half were successfully stopped from Kerzhakov while Selikhov was saying no to Witsel’s header at the 78′ minute.

Teams were lead to extra time where nothing changed and was all left in the hands of the two keepers, with Villas Boas trusting Lodygin for the process.

Two saves from the Russian International and Javi Garcia netting in the last one see Zenit off to the final where they’ll face the winner of the ongoing match between CSKA and Krasnodar.
