Liverpool, Everton and Spurs facing potential Europa League clash against Andre Villas Boas

Liverpool, Everton and Tottenham could face Andre Villas-Boas in the Europa League after Christmas after his FC Zenit side were knocked out of the Champions League last night. AVB was linked with the Anfield job over the weekend with Brendan Rodgers struggling this season.

But the Portuguese head coach has also been knocked out of the Champions League when his Russian club lost 2-0 at Monaco. And the former Chelsea and Spurs boss, who won the Europa League with Porto in 2011, will now bid to repeat that success with his current club.

“Zenit have a good tradition in the Europa League, we will try to go as far as we can, we will play as if it was the Champions League. Let’s take Benfica’s example from the last two seasons, when they went from the Champions League all the way to the final.” said AVB, still only 37.

FC Zenit midfielder Axel Witsel said: “We are now going on holiday, to take a breather and enjoy being with our families. We must have the aim of going as far as possible in the Europa League, because it’s a competition that won’t be easy at all.

“There will be some big teams. We need to be aiming to go as far as possible and domestically to be champions.”
