FELLAINI – HAZARD LEAD THE WAY TO FRANCE

A win over Cyprus was a one-way road for Belgium in order to stay in the top Euro 2016 -qualifying- seats for Group B, especially after table leaders’ Wales domination in Israel earlier today (0-3).

First half found Cypriot keeper Kissas being very busy as Hazard, Fellaini and Witsel were trying to break the multi-faced Cypriot defence. With possession reaching 70% and attempts 11 to 0 for Belgium, it was inevitable to stop the Red Devils, who scored twice (21′ Fellaini, 34′ Benteke) and saw an excellent Kissas denying Axel Witsel the third goal with only minutes to half time.

Belgium guns silenced only for 20 minutes during the second half with Fellaini and Hazard (Axel with the assist) competing for the best goal of the night as the Premier League stars’ curved a shot each to give a 4-goal lead for the Red Devils.

Wilmots rested all three scorers introducing débutants Carrasco and Batshuayi (along with Mertens) with the Marseillese striker putting the cherry on top of a dream first appearance and a final 5-0.

Belgium now face second place Israel in Jerusalem in 3 days time (postponed game) looking to climb as much further on top, before going for the derby against Wales in June.
