With CSKA having the absolute of four wins in four games, Zenit wanted to keep up as they visited the beautiful city of Ufa to face local team for the fourth matchday of the SOGAZ Russian League.
First half was poor from both teams as they produced few chances mainly after half an hour. Igboun was a threat for Lodygin for the hosts but the biggest chance belonged to Zenit as Smolnikov saw his on-the-move shot hitting Yurchenko’s woodwork with Shatov also missing another good chance seconds later.
Time was passing and Ufa was holding on against Zenit’s increasing pressure with Axel and Garcia losing huge chances to open the score (67′, 71′) and Yurchenko making top class blocks.
It was the “who you gonna call” moment, as Villas Boas threw in captain Danny to give the solution and score for yet another game (fourth in a row coming from the bench) and give a big away win for Zenit, who now share the first place with CSKA Moscow.
