Axel Witsel talks about winning his first championship with Zenit, his next goal and sends his message to St. Petersburg fans.
– What does this third championship in your career and first with Zenit mean to you?
Winning titles is an amazing feeling. That’s what playing football is about, winning trophies. Yes it’s my third championship in my career and I am very glad for that. I have been trying to win this since my first day here, so thank God now I have.
– The key for winning the title this year?
The key is always hard work and we worked hard, trained hard and played almost every game in our highest level. We also didn’t lose against our big rivals. We only had three defeats so far through the whole year.
– Would you describe 2015 the best season in your career so far?
I don’t know if 2015 is my best season but I can compare my level with the year in Benfica. I can say that it’s definitely my best season in Zenit.
– Next goal?
Starting from next month, I would like to qualify to Euro 2016 with Belgium. We face France in a friendly game and then we have a tough game away against Wales, so I would really like to be in next year’s Euro.
– Do you have a message for St. Petersburg fans?
