Zenit and Belgian National team midfielder Axel Witsel has accepted the role as an ambassador for Action Damien.
The Damien Foundation is a Belgian non-government and non-profit organization, founded in 1964, fighting against leprosy and tuberculosis (and also leishmaniasis) in 14 countries in Africa, Asia and Central America. The organization relies on 1,200 employees, with the majority coming from the local populace. During the last weekend of every January, volunteers help organize an annual fundraising and awareness campaign in Belgium.
“I always want to help as God has given me a lot and I have been fortunate in my life. It is very important to help people that are in need and I feel honoured and proud to be with Action Damien” Witsel commented on his acceptance into his new role.
