The Zenit midfielder reflects on the tactics of the match with the Gent, Mikhail Kerzhakov and the chances to qualify from the group.
“It was nice to play against a Belgian team. Our tactics for today were to give them the initiative and then respond on the counter-attack. We knew that they have good players who can show classy football. Gent are the best team in Belgium at the moment. In the first half we did not have a lot of scoring chances and in the second, we allowed the opponent to create danger, but it’s done, we have six points”.
This is the first time that Zenit have started like this in the group stage of the Champions League. Are the chances of reaching the next stages are now very high?
“We need to continue to work hard to win the next match against Lyon. It will not be easy, but we are on the right track”.
