ARGENTINA ENDS BELGIAN DREAM

Messi and his company have put an end to Belgium’s winning spree in Brazil sending the Red Devils back home while Argentina will face Netherlands in the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup.

It was Gonzalo Higuain’s goal at the 13th minute that lasted to the final whistle and was the decider of what was yet a tight game in Nacional stadium.

Sabella saw Angel Di Maria unable to continue after only 30 minutes and it was up to Messi, Higuain and Lavezzi to keep the pressure on Courtois’ posts; the Napolitan was close to scoring another but Thibaut’s post had different opinion. Messi’s tete-a-tete with Belgium’s goalkeeper saw the last one winning and Axel Witsel’s powerful shot outside Argentina’s box in the extra time was the last effort from the Red Devils to stay in the game.

Belgium, called from many as a “golden generation” of players, now focus on to Euro 2016 qualifiers which start on September 2014 (in group B with Wales, Cyprus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Andorra and Israel).
