While CSKA was making one of the biggest comebacks in football (losing 3-0 from Mordovya and with ten men, turned it into the emphatic 4-6), Amkar’s visit to Petrovsky stadium meant only one thing for Zenit; Win and keep up with the Moscow teams.
And it was Dzuyba quickly putting Zenit up front after Hulk’s assist at the 10′ minute.
Lodygin had a quiet first half with Amkar not posing any threat while Hulk was beaten from Selikhov (Anuykov was brought down in Perm’s box winning the penalty at 32′), unable to convert it and secure a two goal lead.
A couple of chances from Axel Witsel and Dzuyba didn’t raise the score and the two teams went to half time with one goal separating them.
Zenit had possession and a fragile 1-0 kept Perm still in the game and against all odds, taking Anene two shots to beat Lodygin, Amkar tied things up at the 65′ minute (1-1).
Witsel’s powerful long-range shot trimmed Selikhov’s top post at Zenit’s biggest chance to regain the lead ten minutes later.
Heading into the final ten minutes, Zenit’s massive pressure put Amkar almost with 10 men into the box but neither Axel’s header or Danny’s close shot could change the game’s fate and two teams shared the draw point.
Three days after the big Champions League win in Valencia, Zenit failed for a second Russian league to grab the 3 points and now share the second place with Lokomotiv Moscow who have a game less.
