BELGIUM SUBSTITUTES UNLOCK VICTORY

Belgium’s first appearance in a major tournament since 2002 was followed by a win (2-1) against a tough Algeria on the opening game of Group H.

Vahid Halilhodžić team managed to get the lead by winning a penalty with Feghouli scoring the first goal of the game and adding pressure to the Red Devils. Belgium tried to react with two unlucky shots from Axel Witsel and the first half ended with Algeria leading.

Marc Wilmots brought in Mertens, Origi and Fellaini and they rewarded him as the last scored the equalizer with a header in the 70th minute and Mertens scored what seemed to be the winning goal ten minutes later.

Belgium now face Russia on Sunday 22nd in Maracana stadium, where Axel Witsel and Nicolas Lombaerts face many friends from the Russian Premier League.
